Discovering New Therapeutic Uses for Existing Molecules Yale University, New Haven, Conn. John H. Krystal, M.D. Audio Clip Transcript We are testing a new approach to the rehabilitation of schizophrenia to increase the effectiveness of cognitive rehabilitation — essentially, brain exercises. The objective is to restore functional capacity in patients disabled by this illness. The funding provided by the National Institutes of Health National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences, or NCATS, will help us to discover whether we can find a new use for a medication that is no longer actively studied by Pfizer. If we are right, then this new study may help us to find a new way to treat disability associated with schizophrenia.
