Steve Elsberg

Biography

Steve Elsberg is a grants management specialist in the Grants Management Branch, Grants Section B, within NCATS’ Division of Extramural Activities, where he assists with pre- and post-award management of NCATS’ grants and cooperative agreement awards. In this capacity, he helps ensure that nonfederal recipients of these awards comply with applicable federal regulations and U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, NIH, and NCATS policies and procedures.

Prior to joining NCATS, Elsberg spent approximately 20 years in the accounting and auditing industry, where he developed a niche working with nonprofits that received federal grants. Through this experience, he gained a strong working knowledge of Office of Management and Budget Uniform Guidance, Single Audits, and the federal Grants Lifecycle.

Elsberg earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting from James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Virginia. He is a licensed certified public accountant and currently is working toward his NIH Grants Management Professional Certification.

Professional Interests

Elsberg enjoys assisting grantees as they navigate the complexities of grants policies and the application process. He also strives to support NCATS’ mission to catalyze the generation of innovative methods and technologies that will enhance the development, testing and implementation of diagnostics and therapeutics across a wide range of human diseases and conditions.
