Portrait of Shervin Abdollahi

Biography

Shervin Abdollahi is a biomedical software engineer in the Informatics Core of NCATS’ Division of Preclinical Innovation. She is improving NCATS’ Autonomous Relay System by designing and deploying a web-based testing application programming interface that increases the system’s scalability and reliability. She also cleared performance bottlenecks using OpenTelemetry tracing. This technique allowed Abdollahi to resolve sporadic latency issues during peak traffic periods and ensure consistent performance. In addition, she works closely with the front-end development team on new features that have boosted user engagement.

Before joining NCATS, Abdollahi was a biomedical engineer at the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke from January 2019 to March 2022. There, she built an automated workflow for structural magnetic resonance imaging data analysis called “fcdproc.” She used an open-source interface in Python and published the workflow in Python’s official repository. Abdollahi also used machine learning algorithms to classify tissue from abnormal brains and to benchmark brain imaging segmentation software. Together, these efforts have established superior solutions for clinical use.

Professional Interests

Abdollahi enjoys applying her expertise in biomedical software engineering and data analysis to solving problems for the benefit of NIH and the broader scientific community.
