Biography
Nakia C. Brown, Ph.D., is a scientific review officer in the Scientific Review Branch within NCATS’ Division of Extramural Activities, where she works in partnership with the scientific community to ensure that applications submitted to NCATS receive fair, independent, expert and timely scientific reviews — free from inappropriate influences — so that NCATS can fund the most promising research.
Prior to joining NCATS in 2020, Brown served as a scientific review officer at the National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases (NIAMS) in the clinical trials study section, where she organized reviews that required recruitment of reviewers with expertise in evaluating applications for centers, program projects, single- and multisite clinical trials, training, and career development awards, as well as applications in response to NIH-funded initiatives.
Prior to her tenure at NIAMS, Brown worked as a human capital practitioner at Deloitte Consulting LLP. In this capacity, she served as a merit review officer, supporting the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute — an independent nonprofit research organization — in managing the scientific and technical review of submitted research applications.
Brown received her Ph.D. in biopsychology from the University of Michigan.
