Biography
Tahsin Farid, M.D., M.P.H., is a Translational Sciences Interagency Fellow. He works in the Informatics Core of NCATS’ Division of Preclinical Innovation and in the Office of Medical Policy within the Center for Drug Evaluation and Research at the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Farid gathers and reviews disease-specific clinical data in CURE ID — a collaboration between NCATS and the FDA. CURE ID lets healthcare providers, patients and care partners share real-world treatment experiences with existing medications that are being used in a new way. He also helps standardize data in CURE ID to make it compatible with such NCATS programs as the Rare Disease Alert System and the Genetic and Rare Diseases Information Center.
Farid earned his doctorate in medicine from Weill Cornell Medicine and his Master of Public Health with a concentration in biostatistics and epidemiology from Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health.
Research Topics
Farid uses real-world data to assess whether existing drugs can be repurposed to treat rare diseases that lack viable options. He is particularly interested in rare infectious diseases and antimicrobial resistance.
