Biography

Anthony T. DiBello, Ph.D., is a program director in the Education and Training Section of the Clinical and Translational Science Awards (CTSA) Program Branch within NCATS’ Division of Clinical Innovation, where he oversees a portfolio of CTSA Program grants.

Prior to joining NCATS, DiBello was a program director in the Center to Reduce Cancer Health Disparities at the National Cancer Institute (NCI). Before coming to NCI in 2020, he was a disaster risk management/climate change consultant at the World Bank. Previously, he was a data science projects officer at the International Monetary Fund. During his career, DiBello has supported interdisciplinary research projects focused on relationships among environmental health, climate, economic development and socioeconomic welfare.

DiBello earned a dual B.S. in physics and mathematics and a B.A. in philosophy from Northern Kentucky University. He received his Ph.D. in biophysics and biophysical chemistry from The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. His Ph.D. thesis was titled “Regulation of Ubiquitin Conjugation and Removal.” His postdoctoral training was completed at the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases. There, he studied the regulation of cell misfolded protein stress responses by ubiquitin signaling.

Research Topics

DiBello has broad scientific and research interests. These range from basic to applied research, mainly biophysics, enzymology, structural biology, environmental health, data analysis and mathematical modeling. He is eager to support cross-disciplinary research to find solutions to complex problems and to advance public health, medicine and scientific discovery.
