Biography

Elena Hausmann is a postbaccalaureate fellow in the Analytical Chemistry Core within NCATS’ Division of Preclinical Innovation. As a member of the Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) team, she employs NMR spectroscopy techniques focused in the areas of small-molecule analysis and ligand–protein binding studies. Additionally, Hausmann assists with efforts to design and build a fragment-based screening platform.

Prior to joining NCATS, Hausmann worked as a clinical DNA laboratory technician at PreventionGenetics — a company founded by James Weber, Ph.D. — which is now a part of Exact Sciences Corp.

Hausmann earned a Bachelor of Science in biochemistry and a Bachelor of Arts in dance from the University of Wisconsin–Stevens Point.

Research Topics

Hausmann’s research will use NMR to find activators and inhibitors of lecithin:cholesterol acyltransferase (LCAT) to be used as novel therapies for coronary heart disease and familial LCAT deficiency.
