Tiny Antibodies May Provide New Tool to Fight COVID-19

An NIH-led team of scientists built a library of small antibodies, called synthetic nanobodies, to speed the search for therapeutics to combat new SARS-CoV-2 variants. They identified three nanobodies that seemed most effective in blocking infection.

A large, retrospective study using National COVID Cohort Collaborative (N3C) data revealed that people who had been hospitalized with COVID-19 were more likely to develop heart failure during their recovery than people who had been hospitalized without COVID-19.

Immune Modulator Drugs Improved Survival for People Hospitalized with COVID-19

A large NCATS-coordinated, randomized, placebo-controlled clinical trial showed that treating adults hospitalized with COVID-19 with infliximab or abatacept — drugs widely used to treat certain autoimmune diseases — substantially improved clinical status and reduced deaths but did not significantly shorten time to recovery.
